Hx extender support for openwatcom 1.6 (DOSX)

Hi at all,

i run owc++ 1.6 on my notebook WITH POWERIDE 5.0 graphical ide support.
Now i try to install the hx support for owcc.
I've executed all passage from documentation , but from option menue, submenue LINKER , i can't select HX extender.see note from package:
2. Installation

a). Installing HX's Support for OW

- copy file HX.LNK to \WATCOM\BINW. Then open file
\WATCOM\BINW\WLSYSTEM.LNK with an editor and add this line:

@%watcom%\binw\hx.lnk

After the modification WLINK will know "system hx" and "system hxraw".
However, you will have to ensure that files DPMIST32.BIN and/or
DPMILD32.BIN can be found by WLINK, the easiest way to achieve this is
to copy these files to the WATCOM\BINW directory.

The modifications may be omitted if you want to create native Win32
console applications only, then feed WLINK with "system nt" and install
HXLdr32 in native DOS to run the binaries.

- copy files from OWnn\*.* to \WATCOM\LIB386\DOS\*.*.
(nn is 13 for OW version 1.3 and 14 for OW versions 1.4 or newer)
This step is required only if "system hxraw" is to be used.

It's correct this procedure with poweride 5.0 installed??

HX / OW16 / PowerIDE (dunno)

IIRC, I think I'm the guy who suggested PVIDE to you. But honestly, I don't use it, so I can't help there. :-/ Just try it and see. If it works, it works. Else no. ;-)

The support for OW in hxdev is restricted to OW's command line tools.

Hx extender support for openwatcom -- now at 1.7a

BTW, you know that OpenWatcom is up to 1.7a final, right? It does fix a few fairly critical bugs, too (inherited child process env. in 32-bit DOS stuff? I forget exactly, and the main site with release notes seems to be down).

Anyways, just FYI, I have 1.7a RC1 (full DOS install, I think) available online as a 6.5 MB .UHA file (unpacks to max. 46 MB, use (UN)UHARC's "!" to avoid certain parts):

Hx extender support for openwatcom -- now at 1.7a

Thanks for suggestion: now i check the config file of linker under Poweride.
If i try the solution (or my friends ..), i report on this site.

Solution by iw2evk

Roberto sent me this PM which should solve this issue:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi ,like promised in Forum, i've the solution for setting Hx extender in
POWERIDE for dos.

My friend Luigi Bertani have found the solution...

Proceding like suggested in the istruction files for owsupport.
Then in \watcom\binw add hx.lnk at wlsysyem.lnk

type HX.LNK>>WLSYSTEM.LNK

extract from hxdev.zip patchpe.exe and copy it in \watcom\binw

Don't install hx debugger (do not required ..)

IN PV IDE go to OPTION/LINK and, in the box TARGET select "NONE"
then type in the window Other option " system HXRAW" (without " ")

Exit and save the setup.

Now you can compile and liker the programs in HX extended in dos PE
mode with POWERIDE for dos.

For run in windows the program compiled in dos with hx extender make

PATCHPE -w namefile.exe
