Quake1 and Quake2 now support 3DFX in DOS! (Announce)

posted by Laaca(R) Homepage, Czech republic, 26.08.2015, 20:06

Today I looked into pages of creators of Quake1 and Quake2 ports for DOS and I couldn't believe my eyes. The changelogs say that the 3DFX support was added.

I have the Voodoo1 card in my Pentium II 300 computer so I indeed tried both games.
And it is awesome - it works! Yeah!

Especially Quake2 looks just amazing and the gameplay is fast.
Quake1 looks worse, maybe the software renderer looks even better than blurred 3DFX but we have the choice.
What is worse is fact than in Quake1 in 3DFX mode is the gameplay affected by often harddisk loading. When I enter new location the framerate falls down as the harddisk works.
The acceptable solution is suprisinlgy not copying the game into harddisc but alternative DPMI server which does not use disc swapping.
