I keep forgetting to mention this, too:

Martin Schleyer was a Catholic priest from Germany. He invented the constructed language (conlang) "Volapük" (1879). But I'm not sure how much, if any, direct influence this had on Esperanto (1887), which is certainly more popular, but such ideas were common in those days, in an attempt to tame the chaos. Personally, I never learned it, only E-o, but I'm sympathetic.

Another interesting thing is the Church of the Pater Noster (in Jerusalem but "land ... formally belongs to France", huh? well, they did supposedly have a presence around the Levant in the old days). Well, more specifically, this website (archived), which claims to have "[t]he Lord's Prayer in 1697 languages and dialects". I found that fascinating and (many years ago, 2002) printed out the E-o pregho photograph of the translation on the physical wall and hung that printout up on my own room's wall.
