You are undoubtedly right. I just wanted to give you a "starting point", a "basement" for you to build over. If the problem would have really hurt you, even losing "nights and days" at the age you pretend to have, would have meant nothing. But you know very well that even patching DOS in this regard wouldn't be a question of "nights and days" as long as you have the needed kowledge.

If your intention was just to launch some kind of challenge, as it seems now to me, I am not the "guy" to have interest for such things (because I have no need to assert myself - not even just for myself, I feel too old for this). I thought your interest for the problem was real and you are just too lazy to resolve the things for yourself.
