No, I cannot.

The link is protected by a capcha which is unreadable most of the time.
And even when it IS readable, it requires javascr*** to work.

Hint: DOS browsers are not known for their javascr*** skills.

However, thanks to Glenn McCorkle, I have got, and installed, Links29.

Seems OK so far. Will add all the plug-ins I have and report back.

After half a day of running version 2.9, the only difference is that the newer version seems sluggish compared to v.2.8. It all works, but my impression overall is that there is a performance loss.

For the time being, I will stick with Links 2.8.

I don't see a difference on my system under msdos 6.22, redraw speed and download speed are the same (about 180kB/s). Version 2.9 creates some file gmon.out in links directory beside exe, old version 2.8 didn't (seems to be profiler data so it points to be a debug version instead release). Mouse wheel still not supported.

I tried grabbing this from you earlier, and it didn't work. I just tried again now. Entered captcha correctly, but it still doesn't connect. "Not found" ... although a quick press of Back button on Chrome somehow fixed it. But the .EXE is 11 MB! (Still got debug info?)

Anyways, unless this build is different, it's moot. Links 2.9 has already been released upstream:

http://links.twibright.com/download/binaries/dos/

So I mirrored it to iBiblio for us:

http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/net/links/

Not sure why he doesn't .ZIP or UPX the .EXEs though. Not a huge issue, just a waste of bandwidth. Very very minimal testing (under QEMU) shows it to work okay.

Thanks very much... this one (without debug ?), works much better. :)

I have downloaded from ibiblio and did some tests. It seems to work fine: It seems easy access to google, and - very, very limited - to youtube (there is no way to make a download of the tracks).
(I don't know why, but recently, it has become impossible to access google and youtube with arachne and some previous releases of links.
The problem remains jvs, but ... thanks...

Yes, there is ! I use Links(2.x) to download youtube vids, and use Fred Macall's YTCrack software to extract viable links.

That is because youtube has gone HTTPS:// .
Arachne does not have SSL - any volunteers to add it ?????

You need an SSL-enabled DOS browser - such as Links2.x !

Google _can_ be accessed with Arachne but requires that IgnoreJS be enabled.

thanks for your interest.
1)I know ytcrack, that I used in arachne through the simply brilliant
apm program from Glenn & Frank.
The problem: in Links I cannot find a simple way to use
ytcrack, both online and off line: in other words I am not
able to create a batch to replicate the apm of arachne.
Any suggestions?

2)about google, in Arachne, in effect, eliminating the jv, the page
appears, but it is not "usable" (I come redirected on
"google.it" which is probably full of "foreign elements").

As far as I can tell, there is no direct equivalent to Arachne's APM for Links.
But extracting and downloading vids from Youtube with Links is not difficult.

The way I do it is: download the youtube page as "watch.html".
Process that with ytcrack.exe, and then let Links see the output.

I will put together a package with instructions and the files required.
If you use it, you will need to create two subdirectories: download, plugins.
You will also need to edit Links configuration to point "downloads" at \download.

I use an ad-on in Arachne called Googanon. (Google anonymiser)
It takes a Google page of links and turns them into direct links that Google doesn't see.
Otherwise, any links you click on will take you there, but via Google so they can record where you went.

Would that help ?

I have put a package together for Links using YTCrack

For info: http://www.ausreg.com/files/yt_links.txt
The package: http://www.ausreg.com/files/yt_links.zip (includes yt_links.txt).

Hope this helps.

Thanks! I'll test now (however - I'd probe step by step - ytcrack works in
links, but it seems links don't resolve to download the "outputs" of
ytcrack in any format)
I'll test again, and happy new year!

The direct URLs are to be found in \plugins\look.htm

Links can certainly download ANY of those.
I assume you have included .flv and .mp4 files in Links' setup/file extensions ?

Thanks, your program work perfectly,
( but il remains any poblems to find the "complete" video to download between the output files. I'add flv & mp4 in extensions of Links -es. flv: video/flv-
but in many cases open and close connection without download.
I'd probe to open these output.htm files in arachne too but without luck.

I have found that "itag=18" works the best for my system.
Experiment to see which itag works best for you.

Yes, that happens.
Sometimes it works if you repeat the whole process, sometimes it doesn't.

If Links cannot download a particular vid, then Arachne won't either.

It should be noted that some of the Youtube videos require that the JS
file be downloaded & saved to disk and then ytconfig/ytcrack be re-run
in order for the descrambling of the video links to work correcly.

The dead-givaway that this is required is a message
to this effect on the ytcrack screen.

Before grabbing the JS file....

0 of these corrected using version based rule.

After grabbing the JS file and re-running ytconfig/ytcrack....

18 of these corrected using version based rule.

The current JS filename to be grabbed & saved to disk....

flw4H1P-.js

The link to the JS file will be shown at the bottom
of the ytcrack page like so....

I recently tested it (a version from FreeDOS ftp archive) in FreDOS 1.1 under VirtualBox 4.2 (still supported and seemingly more stable then the current 4.3 branch). It worked perfectly. Even switching back to text mode from VESA graphics works without any problems.
