Arachne DGI like functionality in Links (Announce)

Does anybody know if it is possible to setup Links 2.x (trying 2.14 right now) with something like Arachne's DOS Gateway Interface (DGI)?

It's easy enough to get Links to call out to an Association executable, but, is it possible to get it create an Environment (URL + Query String seems done), and then get it to read + render the returned output? I think I could 75% of what I want with URL + Query String but the read + render output does not seem possible.

Should be possible, depending on what it is you want to happen.
I have got Links2.14 to do a few things, mostly by feeding stuff through bat files.
That may be worth a try, depending on what you have in mind.

Arachne and Links2.14 are my two favourite DOS browsers.

I want to reimplement DGI in Links.

Perhaps if you give an example of what you want Links to do, I may be able to get it to work.

Arachne does it using the MIME.CFG file, which is editable.

Links has a config file, but I have not edited that.

I have successfully got Links to perform a couple of procedures in a similar way to what Arachne does, by creating batch files.
Describe an example of what you want to happen.

I am starting to think that what you want is likely to be similar to Arachne's APM - "plug-ins".

Haven't tried that with Links, but I have created several Arachne APMs including some with executable files. Some of these did grab HTTP files and edited parts of the download for Arachne to display.
Maybe this is what you are looking for.

Arachne DGI like functionality in Links

Say I have a local index html file like so

<a h ref="mem.bat">Find current system RAM</a>
<form method="get" action="save.bat">
<input type="text" name="name" value="user">
<input type="password" name="pword" value="123456789">
<button type="submit">Save</button>
</form>

Clicking the link, I want to call (like CGI or DGI) mem.bat (a batch file the runs mem /c/p and returns it as some html and have links render the results. Exactly how links interacts with a web site.

If I click the form's Save button, I want to call save.bat, pass it a string (as file or env var) of ?name=user&pword=123456789 and then return a response in html and have links render the results. Exactly how links interacts with a web site for a form.

The simple answer is...
"No, links can't do DGI"

The extended answer is...
"DGI is hard-coded inside of Arachne's core.exe
therefore, DGI in links would require code taken from Arachne
and then compiled into links.exe"
