UIDE etc. (Nov. 14) (Announce)

On Nov. 14, Jack Ellis released an update to his UIDE etc. drivers for DOS.

The only real change is "Private caching is deleted from UHDD/UDVD2". For full details, see Jack's freedos-user message: New 14-Nov-2013 UHDD/UDVD2 -- Private Caches Deleted.

On Nov. 21, Jack Ellis released an update to his UIDE etc. drivers for DOS.

Changes:
"UHDD old style 'stand alone' driver re-added, to save 1000 bytes in UHDD.SYS! NO change to UHDD features or capabilities! Other drivers unchanged (re-dated only)."

On Dec. 12, Jack Ellis released an update to his UIDE etc. drivers for DOS.

Changes:
"UHDD and UDVD2 discontinued (very low use). UIDE /N2 now dismisses all CD/DVD logic. UIDE /C switch added for a separate CD/DVD cache. UIDE user-driver caching calls improved. XMGR and RDISK unchanged (re-dated only)."

Hmmm, Jack does good work, but i wonder how he actually ascertained the usage rates of the individual drivers in the collection? I pretty much use UDVD2 exclusively.

Oh well.... :-(

On Jan. 12, Jack Ellis released an update to his UIDE etc. drivers for DOS.

Changes:
"UIDE now supports 4 separate caches; re-issued UHDD and UDVD2 as non-caching drivers to be used as required" (see his freedos-user post for more details)

Thanks, Jack, for keeping UDVD2 in the Drivers archive, allowing it to be updated as necessary.

My system is somewhat limited in terms of upper memory, and UDVD2 can squeeze in there with only 160 bytes! So its small memory footprint, along with its integration/compatibility with XMGR and UMBPCI, make it a winner for me.

On Jan. 26, Jack Ellis released an update to his UIDE etc. drivers for DOS.

Changes:
"UIDE error handling CD/DVD media-changes for 'stand alone' mode is fixed (caching UIDE was unaffected!). UHDD now offers a 'Common' cache plus a 'CD/DVD' cache for UDVD2. NO change to non-cached UHDD/UDVD2 driver sizes!" (see his freedos-user post for more details)
