HWiNFO (for DOS) version 6.0.4 available (Announce) |
After almost a decade, Martin Malik decided to give the DOS version of HWiNFO a new refresh.
See this thread at Vogons for the changes and recent discussions: HWiNFO for DOS resurrected !

Removing the "good and useful" sensor status...
It would be good if they incorporate an external sensor status module |

Then please tell it to Martin/Mumak at the Vogons thread. --- Forum admin |

Probably an "external [HWiNFO] module" to display "sensor status". Some kind of DLL. --- Forum admin |

In: https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=72670
Says:
- Reduced conventional memory requirement by removing sensor support...
The idea is restore the funtion by an external sensor status module of the program, or an auxiliary program of HWInfo.
Similar to what happens in Norton Commander: ncedit.exe, term95.exe, packer.exe... |

Cool!
I find it fascinating, I've already read through the various testers' messages on Vogons' forum.
But it just hangs on my machines (2011 desktop, 2010 laptop). Are they too "new"? (Doubt it, but ....) Did I miss an obvious compatibility switch? (A quick try didn't show any improvement.)
Still cool. But I hate the hidden, buggy nature of such low-level things. Not a complaint, just wondering if there's a "better" way somehow. Dunno! |

It does not work when I choose "Mainboard info" from the menu.
Runs with the -r option working fine. |

Yes, but it is shame that it can't detect my 16GB of RAM on my notebook. (reports only 2GB). And it does not see my SATA harddisk.
It is maybe nice that it can detect various chips on the addon cards but missing such basic functionality is shame, IMO.
I wrote abuout it on the VOGONS forum abou 2 weeks ago but haven't got any response. --- DOS-u-akbar! |

Vogons download? Even the official site's download is the same exact version and .ZIP nowadays, dated May 20. (Just FYI.)
No, I haven't re-tested it yet. |
