misc: NASM, DN/2, NDN (Announce)

Since some people disagree with so-called "flooding" of the board with announcements, I'll just briefly mention a few here in a single post:

1). NASM 2.04 (Sep. 25, 2008 although newer 2.05rc1 exists too)
http://nasm.sf.net/

2). DN/2 2.14 beta (for DOS! Sep. 19, 2008)
http://www.dnosp.com/e_index.php

3). NDN 2.31.1909 (Sep. 30, 2008)
http://ndn.muxe.com/beta/

:-D

Really? Any names?

I like announcements including small changelogs more. ;-)

Do you mean "dn2d214.rar"? Wow, I thought this project is dead.

NASM's is in the GIT repository.
DN/2's is in Russian, so it's of little use to me personally.
NDN's changelog is here.

As has been mentioned here before, the "beta" version of DNOSP is from 2007. But that has been more-or-less abandoned in favor of DN/2 full-time, which never had a DOS port (that I know of) until now.

What about "DOC\ENGLISH\news214.txt"? :-D

The main differences between 2.14 beta and 2.12 beta versions.

(2.13 alpha version already had large files support,
but was not publicly announced due to a number of errors)

[!] [OS2, Win32] Now DN can handle large files (over 4 GB):
added support for copying, viewing as Text/Hex,
archives in 7z, ACE, RAR, TAR, ZIP formats.
[!] Added an option to cancel copying files while preserving the part
that has been copied, and to resume copying if the names of the
source and target are the same (when the target size is smaller).

[-] In calculator there were useless tips in status line (Ctrl-S, Ctrl-A).
[-] In calculator copying result to clipboard ("Copy" button) stored
result in a form selected at last change of input line, instead
    of currently selected form.
[*] In calculator introduced output precision control in all forms.
[-] The English help for calculator was out-of-date.
[-] DN crashed when entering a broken empty ZIP archive.
[-] [DPMI32] Date and time information for files was displayed incorrectly.
[*] [DPMI32] Information about subst-drives is displayed correctly now.
[*] [DPMI32] Added recognition of software drives, which system indentifies
as network drives but does not show network path.
[-] [DPMI32] With DOSLFN installed, removing a directory caused false
    error message 3 to appear.
[*] Added support of bzip2 archives.

That's what I really meant. ;-) According to news211.txt a DPMI32 version has been available since March 2007.

But program itself has already EN, RU, UK language files.
Nice to see DNOSP not dead yet. I tried DOS version under WinXP and see that DN2 does some heavy time consuming enumeration of disk drives on startup and when pressing ALT+F1/2 it takes up to 10 secons util the dialog appear. I found this happen when I have plugged USB reader with CF card. Older DNOSP 7.x beta and any other DOS/WIN filemanager doesn's suffer with this long delay.

I prefer announcements containing informations ... what it is about at all. :-P

Some source code is available but is outdated: from 2007-Jul-02 :-|

Seems to freeze at startup in some (???) cases ... but if it runs it is "suspiciously" similar to NDN. BTW, it also uses DOS/32A and dead (:-() VirtualPascal

... anyone dares to test the OS/2 version under MENUetOS ?

At the risk of stating the obvious, you know that DN 1.51 is the predecessor to NDN, DNOSP, DN/2, etc., right? So of course they'd be similar. And Virtual Pascal may be dead, but it's certainly less dead and more portable than TP7/BP7 (whichever the original DN used, I forget). That's not meant to be an insult, Pascal dudes, just stating the obvious. Feel free to use any / all of 'em. ;-)
