Jack R Ellis Drivers down (Announce)

Hi,

Until a few months, I used to grab update of Jack R Ellis Drivers on
http://optimizr.dyndns.org/dos/drivers.html

But the site seems down.

The last update I have is from 6/6/2021

Anyone as some info about it ?

Thanks

Mercury has a copy of the open source branches of Jack's drivers:

http://mercurycoding.com/downloads.html#DOS

Those are not newer than 6/6/2021, but it is great that Jack does have open source versions, so you can see how they work :-) The closed source versions sometimes have additional features, yet differences are relatively small.

Eric

PS: The 6/6 versions of Jack's classic drivers are still the most recent ones, so you are not missing updates during the temporary unavailability of the optimizr website.

FYI that Jack's drivers are also mirrored on the FreeDOS Files Archive at Ibiblio. You can find them here:

http://ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/dos/ellis/

I try to keep these updated with the open source releases. Let me know if something is missing.

Thanks Jim, and did you have any clues why the main site is down ?

With DOS things, when something is down, I allways fear the worst

"There was a power outage in Hong Kong this weekend, as Johnson Lam
was away on business, and his home server at optimizr.dyndns.org
did not re-boot correctly after power was restored. Johnson says
he will address this upon returning home.

The 6-Jun-2021 DRIVERS.ZIP file is the most current set of the DOS
drivers from Jack R. Ellis. There are no new ideas for improving
them, and they can be considered "mature".

The Closed-Source drivers available from optimizr.dyndns.org are
NOT equal to the Open-Source drivers from FreeDOS IBiblio. There
are many better Closed-Source items, as noted in the README files.

The FreeDOS XMGR/UHDD were updated in 2019-2021 and now work fine.
The other FreeDOS drivers needed no updates. There are no plans
to include any more Closed-Source items in the Open-Source FreeDOS
drivers, which now have no known problems."
