HX and Jemm release candidates (Announce)

Hello,

for both HX and Jemm there are release candidates available. That is, if no severe errors or regressions are detected in the next few weeks, they will become the final versions:

bugfix: when Jemm detected Ctrl-Alt-Del, it didn't reset the keyboard
status. This may have caused a locked keyboard if FASTBOOT was set.

What is the reason for this and why it's called bugfix? I would prefer resetting KBC during fastboot to recover it from possibly bad state. I think that state of whole PC should as close as possible to state after normal reboot.

It's called a bugfix because it is a fixed bug. :waving:

Well :-D ..... yes, that's approximately what's done now. I guess there's some misunderstanding between you and me ... sorry for my bad English! :flower:

BTW, there's a broken link to "jwasm.html" [sic] on the HX page:

COOL :-)

What's new:

* Filled in most release dates (will they get updated again for final ?)
* Updated docs (with changes done mostly back in 2010 and 2009)
* Improved WSOCK32 (untested)
* Added HTTP example (untested)
* Maybe fixed the "FS-spawn-BUG"
* Many subminor and subsubminor source fixes (compared to 2.14)
* A few DKRNL32 improvements

> That is, if no severe errors or regressions are detected in the next few weeks

NOT fixed:

* "7-ZIP-benchmark-BUG" (used to work in 2.14)

* "X17-crash-in-DGDI32-BUG" BUG #25 x17.zip

Both are apparently no regressions ( compared to v2.16 ).

"7-ZIP-benchmark-BUG" apparently is a regression ( compared to v2.14 ).

PPSS: JAWALINK (2011-Jul-02) is out :clap:

I don't know. There are still 22 letters left - I guess I'll start to worry once v2.06w is out.

Yes - AFAICS the first DOS linker that can link 64-bit binaries. :-)

HX - new release candidate

There another RC for HX. The Microsoft linker, which was used to link all Win32 emulation dlls, has been replaced by JWlink.

My test so far revealed no problems.

BTW, Digital Mars didn't work for me the other day (HX 2.16), nor with WDOSX either. (My bad for not trying it sooner.) Perhaps I should try 2.17rc also. Worse is that seemingly the X32 website has disappeared! :-(

Digital Mars (Win32) -- under HX; X32 extender

Well, I haven't tried contacting either Walter Bright nor Doug Huffman, perhaps I should. Anyways, I did grab X32.ZIP from my old external hard drive, in case anyone else wants it (since I hate when software disappears). Also, I still have not tried again DMC with latest HX 2.17.

P.S. Here's the WayBack mirror of the site (but it didn't archive the file since perhaps it was on FTP).

Has nobody told you yet that "doesn't work" is commonly regarded to be an UNWISE error report? :-D

For me it (DMC v8.42n) "works". Ok, it's probably not the most current version, but still ...

I already knew this, but you were too busy and didn't want to make any huge changes before 2.17 was released. So I was just mildly venting, honestly, just in case anyone else cared or had tried or whatever. I really didn't expect you to have time or interest at all! Still don't. ;-)

8.52 is latest non-beta, and that didn't work earlier today under HX 2.17 either. It seems LINK gets confused somehow. (I know it used to work, but since it doesn't any more, I figured somebody might care.)

Anyways, half the point was just to mention that, "Oops, www.dosextender.com is down!", and thus I provided a download link to an old copy I had (in case anybody wanted it).

Whatever this means about old bugs ...

Much better than M$ :-)

The stub size still doesn't match the PE start ($78 vs $80) :-|
