hi at all
although I'm not a lover of youtube & similar ( I use Arachne and Dillo - thanks to Glenn and George ! ) however sometimes could be useful something as flash player in the browser : any possibility to integrate dos browser with a program as gnash (win 32 with HX) ?

If you use Arachne, much of "flash" can be handled with Arachne's plug-ins.
Youtube is easily dealt with using Fred Macoll's YTCrack.apm, and many other
direct media URLs can be extracted from web pages with my NEmedia.apm.

Some other websites need specific tweaks, better kept off a public forum.
There is still quite a bit of work going on to enable Arachne to by-pass flash.

You will also need Khusraw's DOS port of MPlayer to play the video/audio
downloads. And if your connection is fast enough, it is also possible to
stream video and audio.

I think it wouldn't be so hard to integrade calling mplayer from dillo, just need to extract the right url...

I agree, if you choose a simple solution. Without looking into it closely I would get Dillo to download the flash file and then call mplayer with the flash file passed on the command line. But I guess Glenn and Ron will point out that this is not a good idea.

Since mplayer and mupdf are quite some megabytes to download I tried to avoid to include them with Dillo. But calling these applications could be implemented.

If, by "flash file" you mean the .swf file, that is not going to make it
work. Even Arachne cannot do anything with .swf files - at least, not yet.

What I was referring to were tricks and fiddles to by-pass all that and get
at the actual media file itself. Not every flash site has that in the page
code, but most do. OTOH: even when a media file IS in the page code, it is
not always obvious, and the URL may have to be re-constructed from several
different components.

What would be required for Dillo to use external applications in the way,
say, Arachne does, are mime-type/player links. Similar to what Arachne, Lynx
and Links have.

Arachne was designed and built to use external utilities, as .APMs, for
anything she cannot handle natively.

As far as I can tell, Dillo isn't. But if it could be done, it would really
enhance the useability of Dillo.

What Dillo _can_ do, at the moment, is download the web page.
Then use stand-alone utilities to process it and extract the URL(s) as an
.htm file. Then use Dillo to view the .htm file and download the media.
Then, close Dillo and use DOS player(s).

...thanks for your taking interest in my question ( and remember me the YTCrack.apm in arachne) -- Indeed - my experience - the easier & faster way to play a video-song from youtube is keep the url with YTCrack, download the file ( I have a fast connection) and open with mplayer.apm in Arachne - ( I have the mplayer for Athlon - by Sheripa - working with HX but give me problems about audio); but mplayer.apm ( or MPLR2010, without hx) opens almost every file ( MP4, FLv...)

You cannot keep the URL too long, because they are only good for a couple
of hours.

BTW: Keep the YTCrack.apm up-to-date. Google keeps changing their coding
system, presumably to spoil M$'s access to Youtube. This means that Fred
Macoll has had to also keep updating the YTCrack executable, and Glenn has
to keep updating the .APM for Arachne. The last change was only a few weeks
ago, and there is yet another update in the making.

FLV videos do play in MPLAYER ... for SWF there is GNASH but it doesn't work with HX

So do .mp4 videos, which are also often "called" by flash and .swf files.
But if the video URLs are to be found in the page code, even in bits, then
flash can be by-passed completely.

FYI, FLU$H is reportedly deprecated in favor of HTML5 ... but it's f**king off ways too slowly for my taste ... for videos (FLV), there are Theora and WeBM, for animations (SWF), there is no great replacement (AGIF? APNG?? MNG?? ASVG??? AWEBP???? ASS?????)
