DOS ain't dead

When using windows 1.0, enter: win, then load the gui pendant, then flash back and return to: c:/windows/ System startup error. . msdos:7.1 windows1.0

Do I understand correctly that it is not in the real hardware but under some kind of virtualization?

Hi, share your VM, it will be easier to find the problem. Don't post download link in the thread, use the PM. But sure something is not installed as it should or the vM settings are wrong.

Without seeing the contents of your config.sys and your autoexec.bat no way to have a first explanation.

I got win 1.0 run on real HW (my i7) so it shouldn't have problem in VMware. I don't remeber if it use some DOS memory manager or not, maybe try reduce RAM size of your VM. Also try DOS 6.22 with some basic config...
