NetHack 3.6.7 for DOS (Announce) |
This is NetHack 3.6.7 for DOS built from the unmodified source release
using DJGPP. This build includes the DJGPP libc.a "drunken keys" fix so
it works fine in Qemu. See bldnote.txt for details.

Has version 3.7.0 similarly been compiled with DJGPP anywhere?

NetHack 3.7.0 is currently available as development source code on Github.
No official binaries exist as of yet, because this version is still in
development and subject to change.
A recent build of it is also available for play on the Hardfought public server. --- --

Surprise... the venerable Gopher
I was trying to open the link with modern browsers for Windows, but they did not recognize it.
But the old and beloved Netscape Navigator 3.03 was able to open it without problems |

In DOS you could use curl or lynx.
In Windows you could use the lagrange browser, which is maintained. |

FWIW, DOS Arachne also supports gopher. --- --

That's interesting. I didn't know the Gemini protocol
And in WFWG 3.11... WS Gopher 1.2

Unfortunately it didn't work for me with the address:
gopher://tilde.pink/1/~bencollver/files/dos386/game/nethack/
The author of Arachne ( ) says: This archaic protocol is implemented only partly |

I just noticed: DOS ZIP archive doesn't contain a Guidebook (Windows one does).
There is an ASCII copy here: https://www.nethack.org/download/5.0.0/nethack-500-Guidebook.txt (~320KB). |

I even got the DJGPP DOS port of version 5.00 to work in 1920x1080 with small icons (GUI) and readable text -- it scales great to 16:9 in baremetal DOS.
Wizard mode may be enabled by executing Nethack 5.0 with the command "nethack -D -u wizard" |
