DOS ain't dead

Considering DOS (FreeDOS) Part 3 (Users)

I'm a bit confused here

So where is the MBR held if not on part0 or part1?

If I boot into FreeDOS and try and install BootMgr from FreeDOS, where does it find an MBR to modify?
