SigmaOS Dos-like 64-bit OS (Announce)

posted by RayeR Homepage, CZ, 21.05.2020, 02:04

Yes, I tried ver 0.0.1 some time ago...
There are plenty of fancy small OS like Menuet and so on but when it cannot run existing DOS or Win32 binaries (or at least could easily recompile opensource SW to run under it) it's not much usefull excluding some special cases like embedded devices...

About DOS and NTFS, I think there are too much NTFS versions (and incompatabilities) that even linux may not support all features of latest NTFS ver. in Win10 so I don't expect that someone would integrate it in DOS better way. FAT32 is good enough and no problem to have FAT32 partition beside NTFS.

I'd rather like to see for the future a DOS (DOS&BIOS API layer) that can run on top of UEFI (without rely on CSM that will disappear one day...)

DOS gives me freedom to unlimited HW access.
