FreeDOS on SBC188 (Announce)

This is all assuming it actually was the boot sector loader that causes the difference. Perhaps the difference is in the kernel but the older boot sector (that doesn't display dots) just happened to be used by the images of kernel files that worked. Did you already try copying a KERNEL.SYS off an image that works to overwrite the file on one of the dot-displaying images? Perhaps that way you could have an image that displays dots and works.
