is Plan9 better than UNIX? (Developers)

The original purpose of Java virtual machines was that the same bytecode binaries could be ran on a very wide variety of hardware targets. Now Java only supports 64-bit x86 an ARM.

This killing of target architectures seems to be going on everywhere. It even happens on software projects whose very reason of existence was tied to portability.
