The version I use plays ogg Theora without problems, and there was no Mplayer important update since Mik's latest DJGPP port release. Actually the more recent Mplayer svn Windows builds are slower and generally work worse for most common needs.

Mplayer runs very slow under HX because lack of support for hardware color space conversion, whilst Mik's port has such support using VIDIX video output. Unfortunately VIDIX still doesn't have drivers for many new video cards.
