Would you please provide a .zip or .gz file ?
7zip may compress somewhat better, but it requires a large amount of
memory to work. Indeed ,the last version of 7zip I tried failed to
self-extract in this computer, with a "not enough memory" error (it
has 16MB, 7zip used 20MB in other machine).

??? Where did you download what ???

The solution is to keep 7-ZIP and reduce dictionary size to 4 MiB or 2 MiB ;-)
