That is great news !

DOOM & DOOM II were my very favorite games back in the 1990's
Spent thousands of hours staying up all night playing them. ;-)

And of-course created many levels of my own using WADED.

DOOM works in DOS. Again. :))

I am try it (and text-mode versions also), looks impressive. Thanks!

PS: FastDOOM author wrote about 8mb ram. But, in my memory, Doom2 requires 4mb ram minimum, not 8mb. Or 2mb for shareware 1-eposde version. We use PC with 8mb ram for very smooth gameplay (network fights).
(or my sick brain deceiving me?)

How about support PCI soundcards? Does it better than Doom Legacy or DosDoom?

Unfortunately not. It relies to Allegro. But it supports heavy modding and various total conversions.

OK, I meant ZDoom, it can play via SB Audigy, has hi-res modes, 3D mouse look...

Yes, ZDoom appears to be the best DOS port of DOOM, simply because as I recall it supports modern PCI soundcards in modern systems. I'm running Intel HD Audio on an core i7 in pure DOS, and I get perfect sound.

With all of the other DOS ports relying on Allegro, MIDAS or other obsolete audio packages, there is no sound on such a "modern" DOS system. I do not see how Tarter, COD, or these newer DOS ports of DOOM improve on ZDoom (except perhaps to support more or larger custom WADs). Further, DOOM MBF DOS version which is a very recent port, also doesn't support modern PCI sound.

Doom works in DOS!

Except it doesn't play MIDI music as SBA/HDA doesn't have HW wawetable...

But, I've played MIDI tunes with IDH, for example with the Russian DSS player for DOS or Open Cubic player for DOS. These play from the original 8 MB GUS wavetable / soundfont patches which are read into RAM and a Wavetable audio card is simulated using those 127 .WAV samples (instrument patches).

ZDoom doesn't offer this capability.
