CC386 v3.73 available (Announce)

2007-01-24:

rtl: when the sign of _timezone was changed, the calculations for local time broke
rtl: spawn(), exec() without a 'p' would still search the path for executables
rtl: fix errno and _dos_errno with regards to windows compatibility DLLs
infopad: make edit windows larger by default
infopad: CTRL-V behavior: erase a previous marked block when pasting
imake: fix spawning, rename the internal SearchPath function to not collide with windows
nasm: fix files so they will build

New, 2007-01-29
infopad: fix crash when changing tab width
ccide: fix memory leaks while single stepping: debugger eventually ran out of resources to display things. Especially troublesome when a lot of info was shown in the watch window.
ccide: fix find in files to open found windows properly
cc386: correctly define '__DOS__' for all DOS related targets;
cc386: add a define '__RAW_IMAGE__' for non-dos and non-windows targets
rtl: fix sscanf again... this time both the problem with returning a value for '%d' on text (when it shouldn't) and the problem with requiring that scanned hexadecimal numbers start with a digit are fixed

Bugs indeed seem fixed :-)

Remaining problems:

- INFOPAD: input boxes behave badly if "too long" text is remembered from previous time
- VALX: is buggy (more later)

It had heavy development in last 6 months ... hope he will not drop it completely ... :-| at least, I got 3.74 cca 1 day before the project page died ...

Actually, he worked pretty frequently for at least the past two years. When I first tried it (2.78 is the oldest I have), it didn't support most of the DOS extenders, didn't have Infopad, installer, and it had quite a few other bugs (most of which were beyond me). I tested a lot in pure DOS for him (which I guess he didn't use, only Win XP).

I even these days was casually reading up on 486 and early 586 optimizations, and from that I imagined I'd (somehow) be able to help guide him to speeding its output up a bit. Oh well. People get burned out, it happens. I'm not too worried, only grateful for his many efforts so far.

May I (not gloatingly!) point you to an old posting of mine? In August 2007 I wrote: It's one person's "baby". Who knows, what happens in the future?

It's possibly a bit too early to bury this project. After priorities have been "rearranged" it could be revived. Remember, we also have someone here who every now and then feels a bit depressed ... :-D

But it might be a good idea to host the binaries and source on YOUR site ... in the meantime ...

YES, but such "correct predictions" are not really helpful, and even worse, having 100 persons "caring" about one baby, does also not necessarily make the baby better:

Feel free to continue CC386 "as your baby", but I really doubt you will succeed, because I only see you poking around here and there.

It's from IKEA. :-P I just added that signature to show that I have a life besides computers. And maybe somebody else is looking for a nice and small MP3 player.

Apple just lowered the price of the 1 GB iPod Shuffle ($79 -> $49, US, at least according to the news). Yup, Amazon.com seems to confirm it.

It's released under GNU GPL, so can continue this project (under a new name). There's no need asking the original author for permission.
