Development of MPlayer DOS port stopped (Announce)

The last version is from 1.st of February
Michael says about it:
"The DOS port development is currently stopped because existing functionality is enough for me. If someone wants more, your patches are always welcome."

If you will success, let us know. I would rather have one zipped ready to compile package instead mess with patches...

Yes, seems dead. I offered to Michael a free webhosnig on mplayer.ic.cz... Maybe I should do it myself. Anyway here will be within 20 minutes all bins and srcs I had downloaded.

In the next couple of days I will try to compile Mplayer (with DJGPP 2.04).

	> Hope they are. It's all from 7.1.2008 Unfortunately they are not all the diffs needed to compile with DJGPP, and some of them are a newer others an older patch for the same code. OTOH the port of libvbe is apparently missing. When I'll have more time I will try to patch myself the rest of files.

	> How the compiling is going on? :) Well, I've managed to compile it (applying Michael's patches to the SVN source code, nothing more), but I didn't have too much time to test it, although I think it should work as expected (i.e. as Michael's build). If you want the already patched source code (but keep in mind that you have to patch yourself the libraries), tell me where to upload it.

	I rebuilt it with all optimizations enabled (for the newest CPUs) and it works like a charm. Fantastic fps (even with vesa video output), very smooth playing, no crash etc. The only problem is that I had to disable allegro, because my newest sound card doesn't have neither hardware, nor software SB emulation. A low-level sound library must be ported, but I don't know which one.

Could you upload it to e-disk ?

It's cz site but quite easy
1) below "Vyberte soubor s max. velikostí 100 MB" formular window click browse buton and select your file
2) You can fill short description to "Popis souboru (nepovinné)" window
3) click "Souhlasím s podmínkami u?ití (číst podmínky)" checkbox to agree sharing rulez
4) click "Nahrát soubor" button

After file will be uploaded it brings you to next page where you'll see URL to the file. This will be temporary hosted. Maybe then I could make some mplayer site at freehosting (as I suggested to michael) and upload all the stuffs there for everyone. But I will no time to mess with code now, busy...

Allegro for sound is useless form me (sb live/realtek HDA) too.

Well, I don't need a new MPLAYER every day ... but still would be good if future major achievements (1.0RC3, 1.0final, 2.0ultimate :clap: ) got ported and released as well ;-)

It's usable by now ... of course, a mature CVIDIX port or even more PCI sound would be very cool :-)

IMHO Cvidix port is mature enough. The only problem still unsolved is lack of support for modern sound cards.

Edit: Did you try to run mplayer with "-vo vesa:vidix -fs" switch? There is no need to set a graphic video mode before, and the video output is flawless.

Why should it set a video mode, if it's usually run in a windowed environment? Just "supply" some additional source code and it should work. ;-)

Missed the point:

1. I clearly referred to the port, not the original MS-windowed environment
2. This is "DOS ain't dead" , not "windowed environment ain't dead"

	With the NVIDIA cards still not supported by cvidix drivers, vesa is fast enough. OTOH, as I told you before, if you use mplayer with "-vo vesa:vidix" there is no more need to set the mode with another program, it is set by the vesa driver. The video output is not an issue any more. It has the same quality as the Windows port.
