Triones Bus Master driver (Miscellaneous)

Does any of you need the Triones Bus Master EIDE/ATAPI Device Driver for Intel 82430FX/HX Chipset Revision 3.21? I just found an old but working floppy and could share a disk image with you. :-) Yes, it's old and we have ?DMA drivers from Jack Ellis, but maybe you want it for reference.

EDIT: Newer version 3.60(a/b) for DOS is available from ftp://ftp.univ-montp2.fr/pub/pc/DRIVERS/disk/Triones/

Not to start another war, but ... nobody really did anything to Jack. Granted, he might have disagreed (and surely everybody could've been nicer, can't we always??), but I didn't see anything horribly deserving of such anger. That doesn't mean I blame anybody, though. In fact, it's a shame that DOS can be so divided when it's already somewhat ignored (not one of the "big 3"). Lacking good software (like UIDE) just makes more people move to GNU/Linux, *BSD, or whatever (Syllable?).

But it is no longer maintained or improved by the original author. He had plans to add stuff but never finished. In other words, I meant his future work. It's not that nobody can pick it up, it's just everybody has different skills, time, etc. So, it's a shame. :-(

Do you think that if he continued development, he'd be so suicidal to announce it here, after the tons of mud that was thrown at him? He's not so thick-skinned to withstand all this nightmare again.

I think he overreacted (as did some others, perhaps). And no, I don't realistically expect him back here. I just think it's a bit odd since DOS needs the support, and yet he runs away while all the *nixes prosper ad infinitum. Whatever, just a strange situation. Too much anger going around when there's real improvements that could be done.

Evidence please :hungry: IMHO limitations of Arachne + lack of graphical software are worse ... not to talk about USB and sound ...

People move to new "great" stuff (Vista, xxx-64, KDE, ...) just because it exists ... don't ask me why :confused: ... and once installed they don't dare to delete or even shut down it :-( BTW, DOS still works on xxx-64 if you bother to install it and have the luck to find a few free MiB's on your 1 TiB HD ;-)

For me UIDE didn't work ... however IDECHECK showed that my BIOS is very fast (or the HD very slow ???) so there is little space for improvements anyway. :surprised:

The issue isn't with the sentence itself but with its connection to the previous events. Jack asked you to remove your links to his drivers - he didn't want them to have anything to do with this forum. Your sentence "we have ?DMA drivers from Jack Ellis" shows that you ignore his author's will and you don't care that your reluctance to remove a link did cost the DOS users the future development of UDMA, even though you knew very well that this would inevitably happen in this case.

If you still don't understand, here's a Bulgarian proverb: You spit on it, but it thinks that it's raining...

I don't know, what Jack told you, but he didn't ask nicely. Instead he demanded with lots of invectives. That's a difference, of course.

Yes, I ignore(d) his "request", because of the way he "asked". And because his old(er) drivers were free, are free and will be free for ever.

I see. It was all my fault. My memories differ... But let's forget that now. We wanted to leave the past behind.

I may be wrong (or at least not understand, that I admit), but rr didn't do anything egregiously bad to Mr. Ellis (not even close). What Jack decides to do is his right, but I really think he overreacted. And painting certain people as villains or heroes in this context is a bit too cut-and-dry. Nobody really did anything, so whatever. :-P I mean, really, we're arguing over beans, very very trivial stuff!

	It's simple. Robert failed to save UIDE as he regarded Jack's request to remove 1 link not nice. I think that when the future of an important software is at stake, nicety isn't an issue. But let's stop here, I think that enough was said.
