Incorrect work of RAM can cause severe, strange and irreproducible system crashes. Several years ago I have bought motherboard for AMD-K6-2 on a computer market (not new, with some chips removed...). This PC couldn't work with memory intensively because of crashes, damages of data.
MEMTEST86+ is severe and reliable test - rare test which pointed on the bug on that PC.
