controlling GPIOs from DOS (Announce)

PATA, I didn't think about it. At the present time there is only one in my computer, and it is used (compact flash as HDD). But is it possible to control one byte or word at a time? (I thought it was only some kind of "data transfer protocol", not really a gpio).

FDD port cannot be used in the same way?
