Thanks, I bet your suggestions would help, but I prefer to avoid DGPJJ. Here's a replacement for fte.exe:

with the following benefits:
- uses free MS VC Toolkit 2003 instead of DGPJJ
- DPMI host is included (HDPMI)
- binary isn't packed
- UPX will - hopefully - refuse to pack it
besides fte.exe the package just contains the modified fte-msvc.mak.
