Scitech SNAP audio (Users)

posted by Zyzzle, 08.02.2011, 00:15

I do have this file, but the version I have requires a key (serial number) to unlock all functionality, it's useless without that serial. Perhaps the real question should be, does anyone have a working serial number to enable this program to install correectly?

Since Scitech went out of business, all links and information is gone, but my understanding is that the SNAP audio drivers were supposed to be like Univbe for audio cards, ie, a "universal" audio solution for DOS. The concept was extremely promising, but it seems to not have taken off. A pity. I think one of the functions of these drivers is to provide SB support in DOS for many newer PCI-based cards which do not have native PCI drivers for DOS. It seems the interface is built on an API which is proprietary to Scitech, like their SNAP video drivers.

Is it possible to rekindle the interest in providing a universal SB driver / emulator to get DOS games working with sound for newer cards, or is that a lost dream at this point?
