Yes, the VESA thing is always done.

For me -c=A000-BFFF doesn't work, neither for the 4bpp graphics modes nor the text modes. I use(d) the extra switches only to enable write back cache for UMBs. As far as your machine is concerned, the value for region F000-FFFF is 00, which is "uncachable". There is a chance that you can improve your BIOS' speed by setting it to "write back" or "write protected"?
