DOS Game - Galactic Conquest v9.00 test (Announce)

posted by sinclaj1, U.S.A., 21.09.2009, 22:21

It has taken a while, but I've pretty much re-written the guts of Galactic Conquest 9.0, including taking most or all of the suggestions from this board concerning 8.0. (Those folks are in the credits too, btw.)

Here is a link to the ZIP file. This is a temporary host for the file (GMail won't let me email it because of the .EXE in it), so this link will be updated with a new host as soon as I can procure one.

The zip file contains the game, the source code, the font editor, and DosBox 0.73 (I recommend using it for the game). The source is written in Borland's Turbo Pascal 7.01, patched against the runtime bug. **Please note that I've changed out my CRT unit for a newer one with more functionality, it has not been included yet, I'll work on getting that out if I can.**

Also, I'm still writing the documentation for it when I can (work has been very busy for me). In the meantime, use the link above to get the v7.5 documentation...it will suffice for now. As soon as RR can get the file, I'm guessing he can host it here as well.

I'm also trying to stamp out the last of the few bugs I know of. The biggest one happens when you create a new map for a new game...sometimes it will hang. I'm still tracking that one down. Everything else appears stable.

For testing, you can choose levels 1-5, or an insane challenge with level 99.
For tons of production and ships on your homeworld, choose a name of Pilot and a title of "Test". (It will then let you choose a new name so you don't have to play the entire game with that goofy name).

That's it. I know it's been a while, but I've added some good stuff and learned a lot of tricks with TP7 since the last version. Hopefully, this will be the final version of the game. One of these days I'll get around to converting it to something else. In the meantime, enjoy the game and let me know what you think of it. I might make a few more tweaks here and there, but I've been working on this every chance I've gotten for the past 3 months, and I'm taking a breather from it for a moment. :-P
