a.out support in dos (Announce)

Few new stuff. a.out is an old Unix fileformat. Unix changed to COFF and then later to ELF. Microsoft, as an Unix licensee, based its fileformat on COFF and called it PE/COFF.

I think Linux directly jumped from a.out to ELF, with Linux 2.0 somewhere in the late nineties.

I think OpenBSD changed much later (about 10 years later?) some 3.x version.

If you are interested in a.out get the book "Linkers and Loaders" by "John R Irvine". The authors site used to have it up for free.
