It only prevents commands from being echoed, the command's output still occurs as normal.

> C:\freedos\bin\rdrvx32 -u > NUL

You could use -qq here.

> dir g:\ > NUL
> echo .
> dir G:\XMS_FAT.32g\ > NUL

That looks to be under a second. Does it get slower as the drive gets bigger?
