I just tried putting in the lines

SET DIRCMD=/lfn
lfnFOR on
lfnFOR complete on

and now doslfnMS DOES SHOW LFN's with sequence RDRVSX32, SMARTDRV, DOSlfnMS(with SET DIRCMD=/lfn etc). I could not edit my post in time before your reply. SORRY.

Yes I did have to insert those three lines before (ONCE only) and because of maybe a thousand install/uninstall doslfn(MS) that did not have it directly (but was in the FDauto.bat) I forgot about it in my "new" autoexec.bat.

In my retesting of (doslfn vs doslfnMS) I should be able to verify your point.

Any pointers on how much to have for elementsize (how large can I go) and similarly for buffersize?

When I do a DIR of C:\ say, with a large enough buffer size, would smartdrive load up ALL directories/subdirectories tables even if I am only doing DIR C:\?
