There are precompiled binaries available at github - no need to fiddle about with jwasm.

Smartdrv is a disk-cache and no "drive" - and its max is 32MB. I use it with 8MB. Smartdrv does speed up doslfn significantly. Be sure to load it AFTER doslfn.

Well, I use DOS 7, HimemSX, Doslfnms and Smartdrv and have no speed problems at all.
