They were worth it - among other things, they brought to my attention this "screen thief" utility. It works, even if I set very uncommon text modes.

For example:
- setting VESA graphics mode 0x102, 800x600 pixels
- changing graphics to text, 37x100 chars
- changing font to 8x14, gives 43x100 chars
- changing vertical display to 602 pixel (makes the last row to be seen fully )
- changing horizontal display to 80 chars

and I get screenshots in a very nice 80x43 text mode. :-D
